SOVEREIGNISTS and SEPARATISTS.
Canada has ten provinces and three territories, all of which date back to colonial times. Most of these provinces have a similar history, involving British colonization of some sort, involvement in a war or two, industry buildup and then merging into the Dominion of Canada.
But not Québec.
Québec has a unique history, setting it apart from the other provinces and territories. Originally a French colony, Québec was ceded to the British after the Seven Years War in 1763 in the terms set out by the Treaty of Paris. But although Québec would now fly an Union Jack, the people there stood strong against efforts to assimilate them into English culture and ways, and to this day, Québec still stands strong on it's deep foundations of French culture and history.
Obviously, there are differences between Québec and the rest of the country. And where there are differences, there will be tension, disagreements and complaints. Québec is excepted from none of this. From the separatist party Bloc Québecois to the violent and extremist Front de Libération du Québec, there have always been people who want Québec to be separate again, and there likely always will be.
